We all have fond memories of the places we’ve been to either on business or on holiday, here are some of the places I’ve been to, and how I always remember them:
1) Scunthorpe, somewhere in England: Boarded up shops and houses, nylon sheets and tinned plum tomatoes for breakfast. I hasten to say, I won’t be returning, although this was 20 years ago, so things may have improved.
2) Tintagel, Cornwall: Over 50s’ disco, a shop; ruins, once home to King Arthur (or was that in Scotland?) and chicken in a basket, chips in a basket… well anything in a basket.
3) Oporto (Porto), Portugal: Charred octopus tentacle, overflowing toilets and bidets, picnic on a train, view from hotel room (when we’d asked for a view) of a brickwall (which is exactly what we’d asked for).
4) Kiel, Germany: Bloody cold, really bloody cold, f***ing bloody cold and bad chocolate.
5) Brussels, Belgium: Train station, toilet accident and waffles.
